Job Description

The Graduate Nurse (GN) is a member of the patient care delivery team at DMC Receiving Hospital. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the GN engages in patient care activities, including patient/family education, for a group of patients and their families through communication and collaboration with all team members, ancillary services, and support services. Responsibilities include collaborating and cooperating with care team members, coordinating patient care activities, providing direct patient care, and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare providers in carrying out the nursing process. Additionally, the GN must promote patient, family, employee, visitor, and unit safety and identify learning needs of patients and families.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for this role include graduation from an accredited school of nursing, with a BSN preferred. The candidate must have temporary authorization to practice as a graduate nurse under the direct supervision of a registered nurse as required by law, regulation in the state of practice, or policy. Additionally, the candidate must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse by the state of Michigan within 90 days of hire. Skills required for this role include the ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, ability to adapt to new technologies used in the work environment, clinical judgment, analytical skills, communication skills, teamwork commitment, and physical and mathematical abilities.
