Patient Care Associate (PCA)

Job Description

Northwell Health is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Associate to provide direct care to a designated group of patients. The role involves performing various functions, including phlebotomy, EKG, obtaining specimens and cultures, activities of daily living, simple wound dressings, and vital signs. The Patient Care Associate will share accountability for quality patient outcomes and contribute to the unit's admission and discharge processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the unit's admission and discharge processes.
  • Establish good interpersonal relationships with families/visitors and hospital staff.
  • Report vital information to all levels of the healthcare team.
  • Perform direct patient care for a designated group of patients, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, conveying patient observations, and responding to patient requests.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Function in emergency situations as a team member with guidance from supervisory personnel.
  • Perform grade I and II decubitus care, activities of daily living, delegated patient care procedures, obtaining and labeling specimens, and performing certain diagnostic tests consistent with established procedures.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalency diploma, required.
  • Nursing Assistant Certificate with proficiency in performing EKG and Phlebotomy, preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of direct patient care experience, required.
